Rebuilding homes and dignity in Hawassa's Misrak sub-city.
From 2001 to 2011, RLDO partnered with Cordaid to implement the Integrated Urban Development Program in Hawassa city, particularly in Misrak sub-city. The project renovated 98 old houses and 19 kitchens, improving living conditions and creating rental income opportunities through added living rooms, bedrooms, and business-class spaces.
Improved kitchens enabled residents to begin making Injera for sale, generating meaningful monthly income. The project also extended environmental sanitation services — 14 waste disposal cans, 1.8km of drainage canals, 15 latrines, 6 water points, and 12 communal showers — directly benefiting 16,150 people.
RLDO continues this work today, supporting housing improvement for low-income families in Hawassa on an ongoing basis.
